Mkandawire's mis-timed back-pass was seized upon by Deon Burton, who lobbed the ball over Jamie Jones with six minutes remaining.

Mkandawire had given Orient the lead after 27 minutes when he headed Charlie Daniels' free-kick into the far corner of the net.

Daniels came close to a second goal for the hosts when another free-kick was pushed away by keeper Rob Elliott.

Charlton, whose Miguel Angel Llera forced home keeper Jamie Jones to tip a shot over the crossbar at the start of the second half, levelled when Jonjo Shelvey cleverly controlled a knock-on and shot home after 64 minutes.
