Newcastle defender Steven Taylor is in the squad for Wednesday's home clash with Sheffield Wednesday despite speculation over his future.

The 23-year-old, who is being linked with Liverpool, Everton and Aston Villa, is included along with midfielder Danny Guthrie, who has recovered from a hamstring problem.

However, Joey Barton remains a doubt with the foot injury he suffered during Saturday's 3-0 win over Reading, although the damage is not as serious as was first feared.

Loan signing Danny Simpson, who joined the club from Manchester United last week, could make his debut, but Nicky Butt (hand) is still out and Damien Duff has completed his move to Fulham.
