Westwood was withdrawn during a reserve-team game on Wednesday after receiving a whack on one of his shins.

He was replaced by fit-again Danny Shelley, who could come into contention for the first time since the end of January after recovering from back problems.

With James Bailey (hip) and Luke Murphy (thigh) already ruled out of the trip, Alex boss Gudjon Thordarson will be hoping on-loan midfielder Aman Verma recovers from an ankle complaint in time to retain his place alongside Steven Schumacher in the middle of the park.

After losing 2-1 at home to Dagenham on the opening day of the season, Crewe have responded with three straight victories and clean sheets and lead the way in League Two along with four other teams, including Bournemouth, on nine points.
