Rangers manager Walter Smith is optimistic David Weir will be fit to make his return in Saturday's SPL clash against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

The defender missed Wednesday's Champions League tie against Stuttgart with an ankle knock he sustained in last week's goalless draw at Motherwell.

However, the 39-year-old trained on Friday and, providing he suffers no adverse reaction to the session, is expected to take part against Killie.

Central defensive partner Madjid Bougherra is suspended, while Kyle Lafferty is likely to remain on the sidelines along with long-term casualties Kirk Broadfoot and Maurice Edu.

Kick-off is at 12.30pm.
