Striker Craig McAllister has returned from his loan spell at Barnet and rejoins the squad, but fellow forward Ben Watson (calf) is ruled out by injury and James Norwood is at loan at Sutton United.

Adam Stansfield and Marcus Stewart started in attack for City's last match, a 1-1 home draw with Gillingham on Monday December 28 at St James' Park.

Stansfield was replaced after 72 minutes by on-loan Charlton striker Stuart Fleetwood and he could be pushing for a start.

On-loan Tottenham defender Troy Archibald-Henville is still ruled out by suspension following his red card in the Grecians' 3-1 Boxing Day defeat at Southampton.
