Painter has joined on loan from Swansea until the end of the season, fellow defender Calderon arrives as a free agent after leaving Spanish side Alaves and winger Carole is back for his third spell with the Seagulls.

The additions give Poyet some welcome selection dilemmas with a virtually full-strength squad to choose from - the only absentees are defenders Adam El-Abd and Colin Hawkins.

El-Abd has been wearing a protective boot after suffering a foot injury so Jim McNulty could drop back from midfield to cover at left-back.

Centre-back Hawkins is still missing with an ongoing heel injury.
