The striker's run of five successive starts came to an end at Barnsley last weekend when an ankle injury meant he was only fit enough for the bench.

The 26-year-old, who was absent for the first four months of the season with a troublesome hip problem that required surgery, has trained this week.

Boss Nigel Clough said: "He did it last Friday but it has settled down a lot since then. It was just precautionary to leave him out at Barnsley. He was on the bench and if the ankle was that bad we would not have included him at all.

"He is keen not to miss any of the last three games after missing much of the season."

Dean Moxey, Gilles Sunu and Gary Teale are also pushing for recalls but Stephen Pearson remains unavailable as he completes a two-match suspension. Kris Commons continues to battle his way back from a hamstring injury.
