The 35-year-old former Preston and Leeds defender picked up knocks to his shin and knee in Saturday's 1-0 win over Gillingham, but is expected to shake them off for the Latics' trip to the Galpharm Stadium.

Midfielder Dean Furman will also return to Dave Penney's squad after completing a two-match ban on Saturday, but midfielder Andy Holdsworth (ankle) will not make the trip to his former employers.

On-loan striker Lewis Guy looks set to retain his place up front after scoring the winner and his first goal for the club against the Gills.

The Latics, who bounced back from two successive home defeats to edge out Gillingham, are only three points above the relegation zone.
