Painter was ineligible for Saturday's glamour FA Cup trip to Aston Villa and should come straight back in at left-back, with Jim McNulty dropping to the bench.

Manager Gus Poyet has no new injury worries following his side's plucky 3-2 defeat at Villa Park, so defenders Adam El-Abd and Colin Hawkins remain the only absentees.

El-Abd hopes to return to training within the next few days after a foot injury but Hawkins is due to undergo surgery to finally cure his heel problem later this week.

McNulty, Gary Dicker and James Tunnicliffe will all be returning to their former club.
