Robbie Keane made his Tottenham return but it was fellow striker Roman Pavlyuchenko who shone in a 4-0 friendly win at Bournemouth.

Keane, who finished last season on loan at Celtic, played the first 45 minutes but could not get on the scoresheet, with strike partner Jonathan Obika taking advantage of a defensive error to open the scoring after 36 minutes before two second-half goals in a little over a minute made life more comfortable for the Barclays Premier League side.

Roman Pavlyuchenko scored in the 61st minute after good work from Andros Townsend, then the same pair combined a minute later to set up Danny Rose for the third.

Spurs hit the woodwork twice through Adel Taarabt and Townsend, before Pavlyuchenko grabbed his second 16 minutes from time after latching onto a long ball from Younes Kaboul.

The only disappointment for Spurs was the sight of David Bentley limping off in the first half.

Victor Anichebe was on target as Everton beat Sydney FC 1-0 in their first pre-season game in Australia on Saturday.

The striker scored a minute into the second half, receiving a pass from Leighton Baines and turning well before shooting into the roof of the net. Australia international Tim Cahill received a tremendous reception from the 40,000 strong crowd inside the ANZ Stadium when he came on at half-time.

Premier League new-boys West Brom opened their pre-season friendly campaign with a 3-0 win over Kidderminster.

Abdoulaye Meite scored his first goal for the club as Roberto di Matteo's men cruised to victory at Aggborough.

Ishmael Miller netted the opener on 11 minutes, Roman Bednar doubled the lead on 68 and Meite got in on the act 17 minutes from time.

The Baggies fielded different sides in each half.

There were no such goalscoring exploits by Blackburn, who played out a goalless draw against Sturm Graz in Austria.

On a hot day at the UPC Arena, there were few chances for either side, but it was the Austrians who had the better of the play, especially in the first half.

Relegated Burnley claimed a rare away win with a 3-0 victory at Lancashire rivals Bury.

New signing Ross Wallace grabbed the first goal, with Steven Thompson and Chris Eagles also on the scoresheet.

Noel Hunt scored the only goal as Reading won 1-0 at Farnborough, Will Buckley grabbed a hat-trick as Watford won 5-0 at Boreham Wood and Millwall drew 1-1 at Crawley Town, while fellow npower Championship newcomers Norwich won 3-0 at Dereham Town.

North of the border, Bob McHugh gave Motherwell a 2-1 win at Ayr to ensure they go into their Europa League tie with Breidablik with a perfect pre-season record.

Breidablik manager Olafur Kristjansson must have been encouraged for much of the game as he watched Motherwell struggle to find a rhythm amid torrential rain at Somerset Park but second-half strikes from Ross Forbes and McHugh gave Craig Brown's side a confidence boost.

The Lanarkshire side, who face the Icelandic league leaders at Fir Park on Thursday in the first leg of the second qualifying round, had beaten Brechin and Forfar in midweek and they were further boosted by the return of Jamie Murphy from an ankle problem.

Welsh teenager David Stephens scored on his first taste of action for Hibernian as John Hughes' side began their pre-season campaign in emphatic fashion with a 4-0 defeat of Dunfermline

Liam Miller and Derek Riordan were also on target as Hibs ran out convincing winners at East End Park as they prepare for their Europa League campaign, which kicks off on July 29.

Hibs, who handed goalkeeper Mark Brown and new Dutch midfielder Edwin de Graaf a start, began slowly but Andy Dowie turned Colin Nish's low cross into his own net midway through the first half.
