Ahmed Abdulla gave the youthful Hammers side an early lead, but Aaron Webster's 25-yard free-kick soon levelled matters.

And new signings Jack Dyer and Adam Bolder combined on their debuts to put the hosts ahead in the 15th minute, with Bolder smashing in a low shot.

Devann Yao restored parity on the brink of half-time, but John McGrath headed home in the second period and Shaun Harrad netted late on to give Burton a deserved win.

The Brewers continue their pre-season preparations by facing Derby on Wednesday.
