Weaver: Back in the frame for Owls

Weaver: Back in the frame for Owls

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Nicky Weaver is hoping to return in the midweek home clash with Walsall.

Weaver missed his first league game of the season due to a knee injury in the win at MK Dons on Saturday when Arron Jameson made his first-team debut.

But Weaver could be made to wait for his return as Jameson, 21, turned in a fine display and may be rewarded with an extended run by manager Alan Irvine.

Midfielder Giles Coke is also back in contention after sitting out a one-game ban, but defender Jon Otsemobor is still struggling with a calf injury.

Irvine has no other new injury or suspension problems and is not expected to make any other changes after the Owls secured a fourth straight win in all competitions at the weekend.

Ryan McGivern returns from suspension for Walsall's trip to Hillsborough.

The full-back has served the three-match ban imposed for his crude challenge in the Saddlers' initial 1-1 FA Cup draw at Fleetwood and will hope to return to Chris Hutchings' starting XI.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Walsall boss will opt to make any changes after Saturday's 2-1 win over Carlisle - the club's first triumph in six league games and only their second in 14.

Winger Martin Devaney and central defender Clayton McDonald will both face late fitness tests on their hamstring injuries having failed to make their return against the Cumbrians.

Striker Jon Macken made his comeback from a calf problem at the weekend and has suffered no ill-effects.
