McCarthy: Groin injury

McCarthy: Groin injury

Palace will be without captain Paddy McCarthy for the the visit of Rovers.

The defender suffered a groin injury during last weekend's defeat at Sheffield United, and although the problem is not as serious as first feared he will be out for a fortnight.

Anthony Gardner is a doubt with a back injury so Adam Barrett could be recalled at centre-half in McCarthy's place.

Owen Garvan starts a two-match ban following his red card at Bramall Lane but fellow midfielder Darren Ambrose could return after a hamstring injury ruled him out last week.

Winger Sean Scannell played 45 minutes for the reserves this week to step up his recovery from the knee injury he suffered in pre-season.

Dennis Souza is in contention for his Doncaster debut but striker Billy Sharp may have to settle for a place on the substitutes' bench again.

Former Barnsley defender Souza, also expected to be among the substitutes, has been waiting for international clearance since arriving at the Keepmoat earlier this month.

Sharp made a surprise return to the squad last week ahead of schedule following a hamstring injury but manager Sean O'Driscoll is likely to stick with on-loan David Healy up front alongside James Hayter, who has scored in each of the last five matches.

O'Driscoll will also be boosted by the return to contention of central defenders Adam Lockwood (foot) and Shelton Martis (groin).

But Martin Wood (groin), Jo Mills (ankle), George Friend, Simon Gillett and James Chambers (all knee) remain sidelined.
