Marshall: Will replace Heaton

Marshall: Will replace Heaton

David Marshall will make his first Cardiff start for two-and-a-half months, with Tom Heaton out for the forseeable future with a ligament injury he sustained at the club's Vale of Glamorgan training ground this week.

His absence sees Marshall come in for his first start since being replaced by Heaton as the Bluebirds' number one in late September.

Defender Paul Quinn (also ligament damage) and Chris Riggott (match fitness) remain unavailable but Chris Burke, Lee Naylor, Kevin McNaughton, Darcy Blake and Stephen McPhail all returned from various injuries and illness to play their part in last weekend's 2-1 defeat to promotion rivals QPR.

Preston boss Darren Ferguson may be reluctant to make changes for the trip to south Wales after seeing his side perform well in a goalless draw against Millwall last weekend.

However, skipper Callum Davidson is available again after a groin injury and Scotland Under-21 international Paul Coutts may also return to the squad. Ferguson's men have endured a dreadful campaign and have won only four of their 19 matches this season ahead of the trip to the Welsh capital.

Ferguson admitted: "Cardiff have got some very, very good players."
