Commons: Fighting fit for Rams

Derby are boosted by the return of a number of players who have been struggling with a sickness bug.

Top scorer Kris Commons is one of a number of players to have been affected by illness. James Bailey and Dean Moxey did not start against Scunthorpe because they felt unwell and John Brayford was under the weather before the game at Burnley but managed to get through it.

"The bug does not seem to show itself for a few days and whoever gets it struggles for 48 hours. It makes them very weak and certainly not fit to play football," said manager Nigel Clough. "It has affected quite a few of the players but hopefully that is the last of it."

Alberto Bueno was forced off with a hamstring injury at Burnley and will be out for around two weeks.

Fellow striker Chris Porter made his long-awaited return from a hip problem as a late substitute against the Clarets and he is expected to be in the squad again.

Norwich midfielder Andrew Surman will not play again in 2010 after suffering a recurrence of a knee problem which had previously kept him out for three months.

The 24-year-old had started the last two games for the Canaries but is now back in the treatment room.

Korey Smith came on as substitute in the second half of the 4-1 derby rout of Ipswich following injury and suffered no problems so could be in the frame to start.

Long-term injury victims Adam Drury, Steven Smith, Stephen Hughes, and Zak Whitbread will play no part.

The Rams have confirmed the fixture will go ahead despite a barrage of snow and ice in recent days.
