McAllister: Has a calf strain

An injury to Jamie McAllister has left Bristol City short of defensive options ahead of the visit of Crystal Palace.

The Scotland international limped out of the Boxing Day defeat to Reading with a calf strain and joins captain Louis Carey (illness) and Liam Fontaine (ankle) on the sidelines.

Lewin Nyatanga replaced McAllister early in the second half at the Madejski Stadium and he is expected to retain his place on the left of a back four that includes fellow youngsters Christian Ribeiro and Steve Caulker, leaving Damion Stewart as the only experienced defender.

Midfielders Jamel Campbell-Ryce and Kalifa Cisse and strikers Danny Haynes and David Clarkson are available for recalls should boss Keith Millen feel the need to make further changes.

Pablo Counago and Darren Ambrose will be handed late fitness checks ahead of Palace's trip to Bristol City.

Striker Counago suffered a hamstring strain during the 3-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest last weekend and is a doubt.

Darren Ambrose played at Forest despite a leg injury and his condition will be assessed once again, although boss George Burley is confident he will be fit.

However, fellow midfielder Alex Marrow looks set to miss out with flu.

Winger Sean Scannell has made two substitute appearances after recovering from the knee injury he suffered in pre-season and is pushing for a start.

Young defender Lee Hills is still on the sidelines with a knee problem.
