Fonte: Back from a ban for Saints

Jose Fonte will finally return to the Southampton squad when Huddersfield visit St Mary's.

The Portuguese defender began a one-match ban after receiving a fifth booking of the season against Cheltenham in the FA Cup on November 27.

Fonte sat out the home defeat by Brentford but Saints' subsequent matches have all fallen victim to the weather.

He is set to go straight back into the back four with Dan Seaborne likely to give way.

Striker Rickie Lambert is fit after a dead leg while the postponements have given defender Frazer Richardson (thigh), midfielder Richard Chaplow (Achilles) and frontman Lee Barnard (groin) further time to recover from their injuries and all three will be checked over.

Winger Lee Holmes (ankle) remains a long-term absentee.

Huddersfield will be able to welcome back Lee Peltier for their mouth-watering clash at Southampton.

The defender missed Boxing Day's surprise defeat at home to Hartlepool as he was serving a one-match ban, but he will return to Lee Clark's squad for the St Mary's encounter on Bank Holiday Tuesday.

Clark confirmed his side have not picked up any fresh injuries against the Pools, so Gary Naysmith (broken foot) and Damien Johnson (knee) are the only absentees.

The Terriers missed the chance to move into the top two on Sunday and Clark is looking forward to getting back on track on the south coast.

"I was absolutely gutted we missed out on getting into the top two but at least we have a quick turnaround," he told the club's official website.

"We will have to produce a great performance at Southampton and that is what we're aiming to do."
