Hammond: Faces late test for the Saints

Hammond: Faces late test for the Saints

Southampton will check on Dean Hammond, Jason Puncheon and Adam Lallana.

Skipper Hammond sat out Tuesday night's thumping 6-0 victory at Oldham with a calf injury and winger Puncheon was missing through illness.

Lallana came off midway through the second half after picking up a knock to the leg but Saints are hopeful all three will be fit.

Wideman Lee Holmes is the only definite injury absentee following his ankle surgery last month.

Teenager Alex Chamberlain should keep his place after another impressive display against the Latics.

The winger is a reported January target for a host of clubs, including Liverpool, but Saints insists he is not for sale.

Meanwhile, Notts County will check on the fitness of goalkeeper Rob Burch ahead of the clash.

Burch was forced off injured just 13 minutes into the home win over Hartlepool 11 days ago and missed the FA Cup victory at Sunderland last weekend.

Stuart Nelson replaced him on both occasions and he will continue in goal should the former Tottenham trainee miss out again.

Defender Liam Chilvers also remains a doubt as he continues to work his way back to fitness following a knee ligament problem.

It may be too soon for fit-again Ben Burgess to be considered for a start, despite the forward being on the bench for the last three matches.
