Foster: Banned against Swans

Foster: Banned against Swans

Barnsley central defenders Stephen Foster and Jason Shackell are both suspended for the vist of the Swans.

Foster was shown a straight red card for a professional foul in last week's defeat at Hull and starts a three-game ban, while Shackell received two yellow cards and sits out one match.

Tykes manager Mark Robins will have to shuffle his resources to fill the big gap at the back with fellow defenders Jay McEveley and Luke Potter both currently sidelined due to knee injuries.

Barnsley will be without winger Adam Hammill, who has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Wolves after both clubs agreed an undisclosed fee this week, so Jim O'Brien is expected to return to the starting line-up.

The Tykes have lost three of their last five league games and have slipped to 16th place in the table.

Leon Britton is in contention to make his second debut for Swansea.

The popular midfielder returned to the Liberty Stadium on Thursday, signing a two-and-a-half year contract for an undisclosed fee, having failed to settle at Sheffield United after ending an eight-year spell in south Wales in the summer.

Manager Brendan Rodgers must now decide how to use Britton, with a wealth of midfield talent already at his disposal in Darren Pratley, Mark Gower, Joe Allen and Kemy Agustien.

Fellow midfielder Andrea Orlandi (thigh) has returned to training this week and could also feature in some capacity at Oakwell.

But left-back Neil Taylor (ankle) remains up to three weeks away from a first-team return although he should be back training again next week.

And with captain Garry Monk (knee) a long-term absentee, that means Rodgers is likely to stick with the same defensive quartet who kept a clean sheet against Crystal Palace last weekend - Alan Tate, Ashley Williams, Angel Rangel and Ashley Richards.

Twas The Worst Game I Ever Did See...

In this Mailbox it's England v Algeria in 2010 that is seen as the nadir, but there's potential for worse, surely. Plus, one man says we should praise Rooney's honesty...
