Preston boss Phil Brown is set to hand new signing Eddie Johnson his debut in the game.

The United States international joined the division's bottom club on loan from Fulham but was signed too late to play in Tuesday night's 2-0 defeat at Barnsley.

Yet Brown has confirmed the American is in line to face City at Deepdale, leaving him with plenty of attacking options.

At Oakwell he started with Leon Clarke, Nathan Ellington and Iain Hume in a three-pronged attack, although fellow forward Chris Brown remains sidelined with a knee injury .

Clarke and Ian Ashbee should make their home debuts, but on-loan Blackburn midfielder Amine Linganzi remains sidelined with a groin injury.

Bristol City look certain to be without Cole Skuse for the match.

Injured during the warm-up prior to Tuesday night's Anglo-Welsh clash with Swansea, the influential midfielder has finally admitted defeat in his quest to play through the pain barrier.

Having struggled to overcome a persistent toe injury for several weeks, the Bristolian faces a spell on the sidelines while he recovers fully.

"Skuse has had a bad toe for a couple of weeks now and he hasn't been able to train properly," said City boss Keith Millen. "We've been patching him up and getting him out there for games, but it has not been ideal.

"He's got away with it for a couple of games but Swansea was one too many and that's him out now until it has healed."

Lee Johnson or Kalifa Cisse will replace Skuse, who will be joined on the sidelines by Jamal Campbell-Ryce after the winger was forced off at half-time against Swansea with a damaged hamstring.

His absence opens the door for new signing Martyn Woolford to make his debut.
