Mirfin: Has a thigh strain

Scunthorpe boss Ian Baraclough is again beset by injury problems ahead of the derby clash.

Centre-back David Mirfin is almost certain to play no part after pulling up with a thigh strain during training on Sunday, which forced him to miss Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough.

Mirfin's fellow centre-back Michael Raynes is struggling to recover from gastroenteritis and goalkeeper Joe Murphy is still troubled by an ankle problem.

Midfielder Abdisalam Ibrahim will also miss the match as he serves a one-match suspension but defender Michael Nelson should make his debut after arriving from Norwich earlier this week.

Midfielder Michael O'Connor and winger Garry Thompson remain long-term absentees as the Iron bid to claim only their second home win of the season.

Hull could be without defender Liam Rosenior and midfielder James Harper for the game.

Rosenior was stretchered off in the midweek draw with Leeds following an aerial collision with Lloyd Sam.

The right-back sustained head and neck injuries in the collision and, although he has been given the all-clear by doctors, he may not be ready for Saturday.

Harper was replaced by Nick Barmby in the second half against Leeds due to the recurrence of a foot injury he initially sustained during pre-season and is also doubtful.

Defender Nolberto Solano could return following a thigh strain, but manager Nigel Pearson will still be without striker Caleb Folan (knee), goalkeeper Vito Mannone (groin) and winger Richard Garcia (knee).

Recent signing Tijani Belaid is pushing for a place in Pearson's starting line-up after making his debut as a second-half substitute on Tuesday night.
