Doncaster goalkeeper Neil Sullivan and midfielder James Coppinger are expected to return to the squad for the game. Gary Woods has stepped in for Sullivan, who has been sidelined due to a shin injury, while Coppinger has been struggling with an ankle problem.
Defender Joe Mills is also expected to return to the squad following the extension of his loan spell from Southampton.
Central defender Matt Kilgallon and midfielder Mark Wilson (both hamstring) are hoping to prove their fitness after missing out in recent weeks.
But defenders Shelton Martis (ankle), Mustapha Dumbuya (knee) and Wayne Thomas (calf), striker James Hayter (calf) and midfielders Simon Gillett (knee) and Martin Woods (groin) all remain sidelined as Rovers chase only their second win in seven league games.
Portsmouth will be without captain Aaron Mokoena for the game. The defender is stuck in South Africa following their midweek friendly against Kenya as his work permit has expired and he will not be issued a new one until Monday.
It is the latest in a series of selection problems this season for beleaguered boss Steve Cotterill, whose side are without a win in 10 games.
Defender Tal Ben Haim and midfielders Richard Hughes and Michael Brown are all still unavailable due to contract issues.
Left-back Carl Dickinson will probably be on the bench again despite an ongoing knee problem, while striker Danny Webber has yet to play this term due to a cruciate injury.
