Peterborough captain Grant McCann is pushing for a recall to Darren Ferguson's starting eleven against Tranmere.

The Northern Ireland midfielder came off the bench to create both goals in the 2-0 win at Yeovil on Tuesday night and could come in from the start.

Grant Basey looks to have cemented his hold on the left-back place after he capped an impressive debut with a goal at Huish Park.

Central defender Gabriel Zakuani came through the 90 minutes unscathed on his return from a shoulder injury and will again partner Ryan Bennett.

Craig Mackail-Smith will lead the line once more after the striker took his tally to 22 for the season with his sixth goal in six games at Yeovil.

Ferguson will be without Danny Mills and Romone McCrae after they joined Blue Square Bet Premier side Kettering on loan until the end of the season while midfielder Lee Frecklington is set for an operation on his hernia which will keep him out for another month.

Tranmere boss Les Parry is unlikely to risk Max Blanchard for the trip to Peterborough.

The utility player is edging closer to full fitness after injury and could soon be called upon with Ian Goodison and Joss Labadie both on nine bookings for the season.

However, Parry said: "I could rush Max and involve him at the weekend but we could slip up with that one so we won't do that."

Alan Mahon remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, while fellow midfielder Ryan Fraughan has damaged medial ligaments in his knee and will be out for around six weeks.

Rookie striker Dale Jennings could return after injury, though, as Rovers seek to build on Tuesday's thumping 3-0 home win over Sheffield Wednesday.
