Brighton boss Gus Poyet will be without defender Adam El-Abd for the home clash with Carlisle.

The centre-back will begin a two-match ban after accumulating 10 yellow cards this season, so Tommy Elphick will take his place in the starting line-up against the Cumbrians.

Fellow defender Radostin Kishishev is likely to be added to the squad following his return to training after a month out with back and then personal problems.

Midfielder Alan Navarro is also back in training following seven months on the sidelines with ruptured cruciate ligament damage, although he is unlikely to feature in the first team until he has more reserve-team action under his belt.

Long-term absentees Jim McNulty (foot) and Jamie Smith (foot) will miss out again as they continue their rehabilitation.

Carlisle striker Francois Zoko is expected to return to contention at leaders Brighton following illness.

But Zoko, who missed out in midweek, may have to settle for a place on the substitutes' bench after the Cumbrians' impressive 3-1 win at Charlton, where all three strikers - Ben Marshall, Craig Curran and Rory Loy - got on the scoresheet.

Central defender Lubo Michalik and skipper Paul Thirlwell are not yet ready to return to action following respective hamstring and calf strains, while centre-half Liam Cooper, on loan from Hull, is still sidelined with a broken bone in his hand.

Manager Greg Abbott must decide whether to start with winger Matty Robson at left-back after several solid performances or recall on-loan QPR defender Gary Borrowdale, who has had to settle for a place on the bench in recent matches.
