Cooper: Fitness concern for Cherries

Bournemouth manager Lee Bradbury could welcome back Shaun Cooper for the south-coast derby with Southampton.

Cooper missed Bradbury's first defeat as a manager against Exeter in midweek through illness and has been kept away from the rest of the squad to stop it spreading through the camp.

However, the defender is hopeful he will be passed fit in time for the visit of Nigel Adkins' side.

Another injury concern for Bradbury is striker Michael Symes, who was substituted after 39 minutes in the loss to the Grecians with an abductor strain.

Symes had initially been struggling with the problem before Tuesday's game but was taken off as a precaution, leaving his participation on Saturday in doubt.

Defender Rhoys Wiggins made his return from a calf injury at St James Park and is likely to keep his place, while long-term absentee Steve Lovell is remains sidelined with an ankle problem.

Southampton boss Nigel Adkins has no new injury or suspension problems for the short trip to promotion rivals Bournemouth.

Back-up goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski and French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin are both major doubts for the south-coast derby clash due to knee injuries.

Forward Guly Do Prado is also unlikely to feature as he continues to recover from a hamstring problem which has seen him miss the last three games.

Striker Jonathan Forte, midfielder Oscar Gobern and defender Frazer Richardson will all be hoping for recalls following substitute appearances in midweek, although all three could be left on the bench following the convincing 3-0 win over Yeovil.

A win would take Saints level on points with the second-placed Cherries with two games in hand.
