Burnley manager Eddie Howe is waiting on the fitness of midfielder Dean Marney.

The former Tottenham midfielder missed Saturday's 4-2 victory over Derby with a knock sustained in last Tuesday's clash with Middlesbrough.

Even if he can prove his fitness, Marney may well have to settle for a place on the bench given the Clarets' impressive performance last time out.

Midfielder Marvin Bartley will definitely return after completing his three-match ban at the weekend.

Chris McCann is certain to play again after scoring in his first start since September 2009 against the Rams.

Strikers Charlie Austin and Martin Paterson remain sidelined as eighth-placed Burnley step up their efforts to secure a play-off berth.

Portsmouth striker Dave Kitson sustained a suspected fractured rib in Saturday's goalless draw with Swansea and is unlikely to feature at Turf Moor.

Pompey defender Ritchie De Laet could also be added to the extensive injured list at Fratton Park after limping out of the action against Swansea with a calf strain.

Liam Lawrence (calf) and fellow midfielder Nadir Ciftci (ankle) remain sidelined while defender Ricardo Rocha is suspended for the remainder of the season.

Although winger David Cotterill is available again, defender Ibrahima Sonko, one of only four substitutes on Saturday, could miss out under the rule allowing sides to name only six loan players on the team-sheet.

Manager Steve Cotterill said: "How we've managed to get to where we are in the table has been a credit to the players. It's been almost a miracle.

"I should imagine there are teams below with much larger squads who would love to have as many points as we are."
