But there were also celebrations for the Robins who survived the drop following a defeat for relegation rivals Barnet at Accrington.

The only goal of the game came on ten minutes and followed excellent work from Nicky Wroe. The midfielder ran 30 yards to the edge of the area before passing to the unmarked Mark Wright who placed his shot beyond the keeper.

The home side came back strongly with Danny Andrew having an effort pushed over the bar by Shrews keeper Ben Smith, while Wes Thomas appeared to be tripped by Ian Sharps inside the area only for the penalty appeals to go unheeded.

Both sides had chances in the final stages of the half with Wroe having a long-range effort well saved by home keeper Scott Brown, before Thomas whistled a shot just too high at the other end.

Thomas scuffed a shot into the keeper's hands and then grazed the visitors' crossbar with a header in the second half while Shrewsbury's David Davies rattled the woodwork at the other end from 30 yards.
