The Premier League side opened the scoring in the 38th minute when Tuncay pounced at the second attempt for his fifth goal of pre-season.

But the Pirates levelled in the 45th minute when Dominic Blizzard headed into an empty net after Thomas Sorensen flapped at a corner.

There was still time for Stoke to regain the lead, Ricardo Fulller beating three defenders before rounding the keeper and slotting home.
