The hosts took an eighth-minute lead after Jon-Paul Pittman side-footed the ball under Adam Federici, though Gylfi Sigurdsson levelled matters from the spot when Jodi McAnuff was fouled by Matt McClure after 65 minutes.

Sigurdsson missed a second penalty soon after when he was tripped by Alan Bennett, though Hal-Robson Kanu spared the Icelander's blushes by scoring the winner 12 minutes from time with a close-range finish.
