Former England man Nick Barmby came close to giving the Tigers an early lead but it was Tom Cairney who did open the scoring in the 10th minute.

Richard Garcia held the ball up well on the edge of the area before teeing up Cairney to lash a shot into the roof of the net from 20 yards.

The Scots were level within three minutes however as Lithuanian trialist Irmantas Zelmikas was left unmarked to head in a free-kick.

Former Newcastle winger Nolberto Solano then saw his free-kick brilliantly saved by United goalkeeper Dusan Pernis but the ball cannoned in off Zelmikas to give City the win.
