Pablo Zabaleta will miss the showdow after suffering a hamstring strain against Juventus, which will either mean a recall for Dedryck Boyata or Joleon Lescott.

David Silva, James Milner and Nigel de Jong will all hope for a place in the starting XI after starting the Juventus draw on the bench following their roles in last weekend's win over Chelsea.

Newcastle defender Sol Campbell has shaken off a thigh injury to take his place in the squad for Sunday's trip.

The 36-year-old missed last weekend's 2-1 home defeat by Stoke after suffering a slight thigh problem on his senior debut for the club at Chelsea, but is back in contention for the game at Eastlands.

Danny Guthrie (knee) and Danny Simpson (ankle) are both back in full training and will play for the reserves next week, while Steven Taylor (shoulder) is expected to resume training in a fortnight's time, leaving only Steve Harper (shoulder) and Dan Gosling (knee) on the long-term casualty list.

Man City (from): Hart, Given, Boateng, Kompany, K Toure, Boyata, Cunningham, Lescott, Silva, De Jong, Y Toure, Barry, Vieira, Milner, Johnson, Tevez, Adebayor, Jo, Santa Cruz.

Newcastle (from): Krul, Soderberg, R. Taylor, Perch, Ferguson, Enrique, Coloccini, Williamson, Campbell, Kadar, Smith, Tiote, Barton, Routledge, Gutierrez, Ben Arfa, Vuckic, Tavernier, Donaldson, Nolan, Carroll, Ameobi, Lovenkrands, Ranger, Best.
