Sheffield Wednesday winger Jermaine Johnson will be included in the squad for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Chesterfield.

Johnson has not appeared for the Owls this season after damaging knee ligaments during a pre-season friendly against Doncaster, but has returned to full training this week and is expected to play some part.

Manager Alan Irvine has no new injury or suspension worries and will choose from a fully-fit squad for the second round tie against former Wednesday midfielder John Sheridan's Chesterfield.

The Owls secured their first win in six league games at Notts County on Saturday and Irvine must decide whether to stick with a winning line-up.

Midfielder Darren Potter is pushing for a recall to the starting line-up after scoring Wednesday's second goal at the weekend, as is Neil Mellor, Gary Teale, Lewis Buxton and Chris Sedgwick, who were all on the bench.

Several players could return to contention for Chesterfield ahead of the televised clash with the neighbouring Owls.

The Spireites suffered no new problems following the stunning 5-5 league draw with Crewe.

Strikers Drew Talbot (broken nose) and Jordan Bowery (hip), midfielder Mark Allott (hamstring) and centre-half Rob Page (personal reasons) were absent on Saturday and will hope to be involved at Hillsborough.

Ian Morris, an unused substitute against Crewe, could get a run out after being sidelined since sustaining an injury on the opening day of the season.

He could replace left-back Scott Griffiths who, like many Chesterfield players, endured a tricky first half against Alex at the weekend.

Kick-off for the match is at 7:15pm.
