Schneiderlin: Suspended for Saints

Schneiderlin: Suspended for Saints

Southampton will be without Morgan Schneiderlin for the visit of Cheltenham.

The France Under-21 international is suspended after racking up a fifth yellow card of the season in the goalless draw against Brighton on Tuesday.

But Saints are hopeful on-loan Richard Chaplow will be available to slot into Schneiderlin's midfield role after he missed out in midweek with a slight Achilles problem.

Defender Dan Seaborne has resumed training following a thigh problem and could be added to the squad.

Manager Nigel Adkins may tinker with his line-up against the League Two side so Guly do Prado, David Connolly, Lee Holmes, Oscar Gobern and Aaron Martin could be in line for run-outs.

Manager Mark Yates does not expect to have any injury concerns for Cheltenham's trip to Southampton.

Yates had a full-strength squad at his disposal going into Tuesday's 2-0 victory at Macclesfield and came out of it nursing a few minor bumps and bruises but nothing serious.

Yates could well opt to name an unchanged XI from the one which triumphed at Moss Rose when Josh Low and Brian Smikle were on the scoresheet.

Striker Wes Thomas started his second match in the space of four days since recovering from a thigh injury and got another hour under his belt before being taken off, leaving him fresh for the trip to St Mary's.

Loan players Marlon Pack, Robin Shroot and Shaun Jeffers were all granted permission to play in the 1-0 first-round win over Morecambe by their parent clubs and are available for selection once again.
