Snodgrass is one of several attack-minded midfielders - alongside Steven Naismith and James Morrison - named by boss Craig Levein.

Allan McGregor continues in goal while Phil Bardsley starts at right-back after Steven Whittaker and Alan Hutton pulled out injured.

Blackpool's Stephen Crainey starts at left-back and Liverpool defender Danny Wilson partners Gary Caldwell in the centre.

Scott Brown and Charlie Adam complete the midfield quintet while captain Kenny Miller will play up front on his own.

Scotland boss Levein has named Snodgrass as a starter after the Leeds winger made two substitute appearances - against Northern Ireland and Brazil - earlier this year.

The 23-year-old former Livingston player then missed the Carling Nations Cup games against Wales and the Republic of Ireland in May through injury.

Wilson, 19, also came on against Northern Ireland and Brazil and won the first of his three caps when he started - and scored - in a 3-0 friendly win over the Faroe Islands last year.

As well as Whittaker and Hutton, Levein also lost Kris Commons to injury.

Commons reported for Scotland duty wearing a protective boot on a bruised foot before returning to Celtic's Lennoxtown training base for further treatment and Levein announced the winger's withdrawal on Tuesday.

The Scotland boss, who again announced his team on the Scottish Football Association website, added: "He's quite quickly establishing himself as one of the key players within the group.

"Somebody else will have to take his place. What is hugely encouraging for me is the quality of the group as a whole is such now that the drop-off (in quality) isn't significant at all."
