Bardsley: Went close for Sunderland

Bardsley: Went close for Sunderland

The Premier League side bossed the game from the off - with Stephane Sessegnon outstanding - but were unable to find an opening despite a host of chances.

The Benin international created two early openings for Seb Larsson and further chances followed for Asamoah Gyan and Jack Colback as the Black Cats laid siege to the Hibs goal.

There were brief moments of promise for the home side through the lively Gary O'Connor but it was Sunderland who went closest before the break, Phil Bardsley hammering a shot inches wide.

The one-way traffic continued after half-time with further chances for the visitors from Craig Gardner, Sessegnon and Gyan.

At the other end, Hibs sub Ross Caldwell fired horribly wide moments after coming on but the closest either side came to a goal was 12 minutes from time when Connor Wickham saw his shot cannon off the upright.
