Millwall substitute John Marquis struck in the last minute to earn the Lions a 1-0 friendly victory over Gillingham at Priestfield on Saturday.

Marquis met a free-kick from Hameur Bouazza with a header at the far post to sink the League Two side.

Liam Trotter twice went close for the Lions in the first half while former Millwall defender Matt Lawrence headed narrowly over the crossbar for the hosts.

In a physical encounter, Millwall's new signing Jordan Stewart had to go off at the start of the second half after taking a whack to the face and Josh McQuoid had a goal disallowed after he had been fouled.

Former Ipswich striker Reggie Lambe, who is on trial at Gillingham, came on for the final half an hour and put a decent effort over the crossbar.
