Tykes striker Ricardo Vaz Te is doubtful for the clash.

The 24-year-old, released by Hibernian at the end of last season, has started on the substitutes' bench in the Tykes' first two league games and suffered a slight muscle tear in Saturday's home defeat to Southampton.

Goalkeeper Luke Steele missed out on Saturday due to a knee injury and remains doubtful - David Preece made his first appearance of the season - as does defender Stephen Foster, sidelined on Saturday through illness.

Scott Wiseman started on Saturday in Foster's absence and is expected to retain his place.

Manager Keith Hill has no other injury or suspension problems as the Tykes look to secure their first win of the season.

Middlesbrough will be without Tony McMahon.

McMahon was sent off in Saturday's win over Leeds for two yellow cards and must now serve a one-match ban.

Defender Justin Hoyte is a doubt after picking up a thigh problem at Elland Road and he will be assessed ahead of the trip to South Yorkshire.

Midfielder Merouane Zemmama could be sidelined until the middle of next month with a hip muscle problem, while Kevin Thomson's battle with ankle and shin injuries which required surgery is ongoing.

Faris Haroun will have to wait for his debut after his move from Germinal Beerschot has been delayed due to paperwork.

Marvin Emnes will almost certainly lead the line after plundering five goals in the opening three games of the campaign.

Time To Step Up, Mr Platini...

UEFA should step up and extend the Euros to replace FIFA's tarnished World Cup, say a couple of mailboxers. Also: all hail Carlo, King of the Kop, and plenty more Budget XIs...
