Liddle: Fractured his cheeckbone

Hartlepool manager Mick Wadsworth has been hit by injuries and suspensions and will be scratching around for midfielders.

Gary Liddle will undergo surgery after fracturing his cheekbone on Saturday in an aerial collision with Walsall skipper Andy Butler and fellow midfielder Nathan Luscombe starts a three-game ban following his dismissal in the 1-1 draw.

Antony Sweeney is already sidelined due to a groin strain that kept him out at the weekend and summer signing Nolberto Solano was forced off against Walsall with a hamstring strain and is not expected to play.

Wadsworth could be forced to give late fitness tests to defenders Evan Horwood - he was forced off on Saturday in the closing stages - Neil Austin and Sam Collins, who are all struggling with knocks.

Strikers James Brown and Colin Larkin, who have yet to feature for Pools this season due to respective ankle injuries, are hoping to be included in the squad.

Huddersfield midfielder Anton Robinson is hoping to return to the squad as his side look to break an 86-year old club record.

Robinson, a summer signing from Bournemouth, sustained a hamstring strain on his debut against Bury on the opening day.

Another midfielder, long-term absentee Damien Johnson, is also closing in on a return to first-team action after damaging cruciate knee ligaments last December and could be included in the squad.

Goalkeeper Alex Smithies remains sidelined and undergoes surgery to resolve a long-standing knee problem this week.

Winger Danny Ward, who scored Town's second equaliser at Rochdale on Saturday, is one of several players hoping to return to the starting line-up, with striker Jordan Rhodes and defender Calum Woods among them.

The Terriers equalled a club record of 27 successive league games unbeaten at Rochdale on Saturday, which was set in 1925.
