Clarke: Skipper may return for Terriers

Oldham boss Paul Dickov is set to hand debuts to new signings Shefki Kuqi and Tom Adeyemi.

Veteran striker Kuqi, who had been without a club since his release by Newcastle, has penned a deal to stay until the end of the season.

Norwich midfielder Adeyemi has joined on loan until January 3 and both players are in line for starting roles against the Terriers.

Kuqi looks set to partner Reuben Reid in attack while Abeyemi will replace Carl Winchester in midfield.

Winchester is away with Northern Ireland Under-21s while defender Nathan Clarke, who is on loan from Huddersfield, is not eligible to face his parent club.

Jean-Yves M'voto, who served a one-match ban last weekend, will therefore return in the centre of defence.

Meanwhile Huddersfield could have captain Peter Clarke back.

The defender has missed the Terriers' last two matches with a back problem but is nearing a return to full fitness.

One man who will definitely miss out is goalkeeper Alex Smithies, who has a long-standing knee problem.

But midfielder Damien Johnson, on a season-long loan from Plymouth, is edging closer to making his first appearance of the campaign.

The 32-year-old missed the back end of last season through a cruciate knee ligament injury but played 90 minutes of a development game against Middlesbrough on Wednesday.

Boss Lee Clark told the Huddersfield Daily Examiner: "Damien would have been a potential player of the season if he hadn't got injured last year, so obviously it's terrific for us to be getting him back."
