Clarke: Hoping to return

Huddersfield skipper Peter Clarke is hoping to return to the side.

Central defender Clarke has missed the last three matches due to a back problem but has undergone intensive treatment this week and is confident of proving his fitness.

Antony Kay has stepped up during Clarke's absence and will continue should his captain fail to make it.

Manager Lee Clark will also welcome back striker Jordan Rhodes from international duty with Scotland Under-21s and must decide whether to put him straight back in the starting line-up.

Midfielder Damien Johnson is close to making his first appearance since December after recovering from knee ligament damage.

But left-back Liam Ridehalgh is sidelined with a thigh strain and goalkeeper Alex Smithies is working his way back to fitness following knee surgery.

Tranmere boss Les Parry will be without a trio of players.

Playmaker Andy Robinson is facing a month on the sidelines due to a hamstring strain and defender Mark McChrystal is set for at least two months out of action due to a foot injury.

In another blow, winger Martin Devaney sustained a hamstring strain during last Saturday's goalless draw with Yeovil and is set for a fortnight on the sidelines.

Striker Adam McGurk has been troubled by a thigh injury but is edging closer to full fitness and will be available.

Veteran defender Ian Goodison picked up a stomach strain against Yeovil but is hopeful of being passed fit to face the Terriers.
