Horwood: Pushing for a start for Pools

Horwood: Pushing for a start for Pools

Hartlepool defender Stephen Wright is expected to return to contention.

Wright, a permanent summer signing from Brentford, missed last Saturday's 2-1 win at Bournemouth after being kicked on the back of his knee in training the previous Thursday.

Manager Mick Wadsworth opted for veteran Ritchie Humphreys to fill in at left-back, with Evan Horwood on the substitutes' bench.

But Horwood made a late appearance after shaking off a groin injury and volleyed home a spectacular winner, so Wadsworth faces a selection dilemma as his side look to extend their unbeaten League One run to 10 matches.

Wadsworth also has the option of adding fit-again strikers James Brown and Colin Larkin to his squad.

Brown has yet to make a first-team start in the league this season due to injury (ankle) and illness.

Sheffield Wednesday striker Ryan Lowe is unlikely to feature.

Lowe, signed from Bury in the summer, lasted only 22 minutes of his debut at Charlton earlier this month before a late appearance off the substitutes' bench in last week's home win over Exeter.

But Lowe is still struggling with bruising related to an ankle injury and may require a further spell on the sidelines.

Fellow striker Chris O'Grady remains in a similar position as he has not fully shaken off the foot problem which has restricted him to three appearances since his arrival from Rochdale in August.

Winger Jermaine Johnson sits out the final game of his three-match ban and midfielder David Prutton is still out due to a thigh strain.

Manager Gay Megson has no other injury or suspension issues as his side chase only their second away win in the league this season.
