Sharp: Future under the spotlight

Sharp: Future under the spotlight

Billy Sharp remains Doncaster's main doubt.

Sharp missed Saturday's 1-1 draw with Coventry at the Keepmoat due to a family issue and speculation has since emerged that Southampton and Ipswich are set to renew their summer interest in the former Sheffield United striker.

James Hayter led the Rovers line in Sharp's absence at the weekend and netted his side's equaliser.

He could be joined in attack by James Coppinger, who contributed effectively as a half-time substitute for Giles Barnes against the Sky Blues.

Barnes was withdrawn from the action with concussion and the ex-Derby man will continue to be monitored ahead of the game while long-term knee-injury victim Chris Brown is back in training but is still some way from match action.

Having taken seven points from Dean Saunders' first three games in charge, Doncaster are currently without a win in four matches and lie a place above bottom-club Bristol City on goal difference.

Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray has no fresh injury concerns as his side attempt to bounce back from defeat at Southampton.

Boro lost 3-0 to the Championship leaders on Saturday and head for Doncaster determined to return to winning ways.

Defender Seb Hines, who did not travel to St Mary's Stadium after playing for the reserves last week following his recovery from a knee injury, returned to training on Monday morning and could be involved.

However, midfielder Kevin Thomson, who has missed the last two games with a hamstring problem, is unlikely to make the trip.

Striker Jonathan Franks remains on the sidelines as he continues his recovery from shoulder surgery, while goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has returned to Wolves with his loan spell at an end.
