Brayford: Could feature for Derby

Brayford: Could feature for Derby

Derby manager Nigel Clough will make a late decision about whether to include John Brayford in his squad.

Brayford has been out for just over a month after tearing a thigh muscle in training but the right-back is in the final stages of his rehabilitation and could go straight back into the starting line up.

"We will make a late call on Friday with regards to John," said Clough. "With a thigh injury the biggest thing is kicking the ball again but we hope that won't be a major issue for him.

"We will be guided by John to a degree as to how he feels, but we have to be careful with him. If he is okay then he will go straight back in ."

Captain Shaun Barker is also close to a return after making his long-awaited comeback from knee surgery with a run-out for the reserves this week. The centre-half played his first 45 minutes since April on Wednesday afternoon along with fellow defender Chris Riggott (Achilles and calf) and midfielder Paul Green (knee).

Forwards Steven Davies (fractured skull), Nathan Tyson (groin), Theo Robinson (hamstring) and defender Russell Anderson (hamstring) were Derby's other injury absentees prior to the international break. Davies and Anderson will definitely remain on the sidelines and Tyson is unlikely to feature, but Robinson could be fit.

Hull caretaker-manager Nick Barmby could receive a welcome boost for his first game in charge at Derby with Cameron Stewart and Andy Dawson poised to return to the squad.

Winger Stewart has been sidelined since suffering knee ligament damage in February but is expected to be included in Barmby's plans following two reserve-team appearances.

Skipper Dawson is another key player likely to make a timely return following a long injury lay-off. The left-back, out since early September after injuring his knee in training, is hoping to play some part.

Goalkeeper Adriano Basso (tendonitis) missed the home game against West Ham last time out but is fit again and vying with Peter Gulacsi for a place in the starting line-up.

Striker Martyn Waghorn (hamstring), on loan from Leicester, and midfielder Martin Pusic (hip) are still out, as are winger Richard Garcia and midfielder Seyi Olofinjana, who have edged closer to first-team action by returning to training after long-term knee injuries.
