In a repeat of the result at Spotland in August, Town twice threw away the lead and left the field to a chorus of boos.

Danny Ward gave Town the lead only for Andrew Tutte to equalise and Jordan Rhodes put the home side back in front, but Grimes, only on the field eight minutes, levelled in the 82nd minute.

Town skipper Antony Kay hit the top of the bar with a dipping volley before Town went ahead in first half stoppage time through Ward, who lashed home a stunning drive from just outside the box.

Less than a minute later Rochdale were level when Gary Jones set up Tutte who sprinted away down the right and fired into the top corner.

Town were back in front three minutes after the re-start when Joey Gudjonsson put Novak away and his deep cross to the back post was turned in by Rhodes, but Dale snatched a point when Michael Symes knocked down for Grimes to fire home a curling shot, again from just outside the box, with eight minutes left.
