Tomlinson: Still recovering from ilness

Port Vale will wait to see if Stuart Tomlinson is fit to return in goal.

Tomlinson was taken ill ahead of the re-arranged game at Shrewsbury on Tuesday night so Chris Martin received a late call-up.

Should Tomlinson recover, manager Micky Adams may still decide to stick with Martin after hinting that he could give his fringe players and the club's youngsters a chance in the remaining three matches this season.

"We will continue to prepare properly and professionally but the game on Saturday is a dead rubber and we might experiment a bit. We will give a chance to a few youngsters," said Adams.

Clayton McDonald has been nursing a hamstring problem in recent weeks and the defender may miss out once more.

Meanwhile, Mark McGhee has no new injury or suspension worries as he prepares Bristol Rovers for this fixture.

Winger Mustapha Carayol shrugged off a hamstring problem to feature in the 7-1 demolition of Burton last time out and is expected to start once again at Vale Park.

Centre-back Adam Virgo is the only long-term absentee for Rovers with a knee ligament problem that is likely to keep the former Brighton man out until the end of the season.

Wayne Brown made his long-awaited comeback from an ankle knock as a substitute in the defeat of the Brewers and is pushing for a start, but McGhee will be hard-pushed to make changes to his starting line-up following the impressive victory last weekend.
