Brighton hope to include new signing Ryan Harley in their squad.

The midfielder arrived from Swansea for an undisclosed fee on Monday morning and Albion are awaiting international clearance from the Welsh FA.

If he gets the green light Harley could be handed an immediate debut by boss Gus Poyet.

Strikers Will Buckley (hamstring) and Will Hoskins (hip) missed Saturday's 2-2 draw against Blackpool and are "touch and go" according to Poyet.

Winger Kazenga LuaLua managed 20 minutes as a substitute at the weekend following a hamstring injury and came through unscathed.

Defenders Tommy Elphick (Achilles) and Adam El-Abd (foot) are still recovering from the injuries they suffered at the end of last season.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce will be without defender Phil Bardsley through suspension for the game against the Seagulls.

The full-back was sent off for a second bookable offence in Saturday's 1-0 derby defeat by Newcastle and will serve a one-match ban.

Bruce will make changes as some of his summer signings get the chance to prove their worth with keeper Keiren Westwood a likely starter, but the game will come too soon for defender John O'Shea despite his recovery from a hamstring problem and Craig Gordon, Fraizer Campbell and David Meyler (all knee) are still unavailable.

Sunderland (from): Mignolet, Westwood, Brown, Richardson, Turner, Bramble, Ferdinand, Laing, Cattermole, Gardner, Vaughan, Colback, Elmohamady, Gyan, Sessegnon, Wickham, Ji, Cook.
