Wallace: Faces fitness test

Wallace: Faces fitness test

Birmingham will once again be without Liam Ridgewell as they attempt to extend their unbeaten run at home.

The defender missed Blues' 1-1 draw with Peterborough at the weekend after picking up a thigh injury and because of his failure to recover, Stephen Carr and David Murphy are likely to retain the full-back berths.

Ridgewell will be joined on the sidelines by Morgaro Gomis (groin) and fellow midfielder Jordon Mutch (ankle).

Gomis is back in training but the visit of the Clarets comes too soon for him to be involved.

Winger Wade Elliott, a substitute against Posh on Saturday, will hope to secure a place in Chris Hughton's starting line-up against his former club.

Hughton's side will hope to make up ground on the promotion hopefuls with one of their three games in hand.

Burnley will hand a late fitness test to Ross Wallace ahead of the game.

Wallace was on a run of three goals in as many games before a hamstring problem forced him to miss the weekend defeat to Leeds.

On-loan Wolves striker Sam Vokes is poised to make his first start for Eddie Howe's men after Charlie Austin suffered a dislocated shoulder on Saturday.

X-rays revealed the former Swindon forward has not suffered a fracture, but he awaits further scans later this week to determine the length of time he faces on the sidelines.

Martin Paterson is stepping up his recovery from a thigh injury but the trip to St Andrew's comes too soon for him.

Michael Duff returned from two months out with a medial ligament problem against Leeds and is set to continue in defence as the Clarets look to end a run of three consecutive league defeats.
