Walters: Could start for Republic

Stoke forward Jonathan Walters or West Brom's Simon Cox will get the nod to replace the suspended Kevin Doyle on Friday evening, but the Italian will finalise his selection overnight.

Stephen Kelly will take over from the injured John O'Shea at right-back, but Trapattoni, who confirmed the bulk of his team at a press conference at the A Le Coq Arena on Thursday evening, will otherwise field his strongest available line-up.

Republic of Ireland team: Shay Given; Stephen Kelly, Sean St Ledger, Richard Dunne, Stephen Ward; Damien Duff, Glenn Whelan, Keith Andrews, Aiden McGeady; Robbie Keane, Jonathan Walters/Simon Cox.
