FT: England 4 Montenegro 1

England 4 Montenegro 1. No indication at half-time that things would be this easy, but the Three Lions march on and are closing on Brazil 2014.

GOAL ENGLAND - STURRIDGE. No mistake from the spot, with Sturridge rolling the ball into the back of the net. Poleksic goes early, and the wrong way.

Vukcevic towards the box, but a poor delivery is cut out by Cahill and Milner can lead the England charge. He finds Sturridge, who skips past Kecojevic and is cut down from behind. Penalty to England.

Sturridge operating on halfway now. He hasn't had too many sniffs of goal tonight. Rooney then concedes a free-kick and England will have to retreat.

Three minutes of stoppage-time to be played.

Baines goes long onto the head of Welbeck. Sturridge then flicks on towards the Manchester United forward, but the visitors have enough men back.

Hodgson still down on the sidelines. He isn't going to move until he has the points in the bag. As it stands, England are about to guarantee themselevs a top-two finish in Group H.

Playing out time now. England have no need to go chasing a fourth, Montenegro accept the game has gone. Might as well end proceedings now.

Milner given a late run-out as he replaces skipper Gerrard. Job done for England now. Rooney will captain them to the final whistle.

Important touch from Jagielka takes the ball away from Damjanovic. Montenegro caught with men upfield, and Rooney springs Sturridge in behind. Again, the flag goes up.

A Cahill clearance breaks kindly back to Hart. He is able to bowl the ball out to Jagielka. England can't make headway down their left. Damjanovic still chasing hard, and wins a throw.

Hart organises his wall. Strange set-piece, which is touched a couple of times before being rolled to the edge of the box. Not the slickest of training ground moves.

Welbeck, now on the right, doing his bit for the collective cause as he chases back. Gerrard doesn't help matters as he concedes a free-kick 30 yards from goal for a trip on Vukcevic.

Wilshere looking to get involved. He will want to earn a starting berth for Tuesday, but can't see Hodgson changing much. England took their time to get going, but have been the better side.

Another change. Jovetic makes way for Kasalica. No need for the Manchester City to be out there any more now that the game has gone.

Townsend gets a deserved standing ovation as he makes his way from the field. Wilshere sent on in his place to see England over the line.

Breathing space again for England. That should be it now. Surely they won't let things slip from here? Cahill has taken a knock to his back.

GOAL ENGLAND - TOWNSEND. Dream debut for the Tottenham man. Townsend slips around Vukcevic and lets fly from 20 yards out. A curling, dipping effort flashes into the bottom corner.

Rooney takes the ball off Sturridge's toe. He is eager to be involved as much as possible. Good to see as England need their experienced heads to step up to the plate.

Carrick into Welbeck. England looking to keep the ball. Montenegro not chasing too hard. Rooney finding space from deep, but fails to work Poleksic from 25 yards out.

Damjanovic wins a free-kick 30 yards from goal. Big men from the back trot forward, but it doesn't look like the ball will be delivered their way. It isn't, with Drincic firing a poor effort high over the top.

Nice footwork from Sturridge on the edge of the box. He thinks he has spottd Poleksic off his line, but an attempted chip never gets enough height on it.

Nerves being shredded again. Nothing is ever easy with England. Starting to show on the field as Cahill plays a loose pass. He gets away with it and Gerrard takes over.

Game on again. Montenegro make a second change, with Volkov making way for Vukcevic.

GOAL MONTENEGRO - DAMJANOVIC. This isn't over yet. Beqiraj given far too much space down the left and his hopeful shot, which was going wide, is prodded past Hart by Damjanovic.

Rooney involved again, freeing Townsend down the right. He delivers a fraction too early and the ball rolls in front of Sturridge as he tries to connect in front of goal. England looking dangerous.

Carrick wide to Baines, who is still pushing on down the left. Montenegro looking tired. Rooney clips a pass into Sturridge. The ball is moved to Baines, who sees a cross just evade the toes of Rooney in the middle.

Carrick and Gerrard give acres of room in midfield. They spring Rooney into the box, with a clear sight of goal. Rather than shhot he tries to square for Gerrard, but the ball arrives just behind him and he scuffs inches past the post - via the aid of a deflection. Welbeck fires at Poleksic from the set-piece.

Poleksic comes to meet Baines' delivery with a solid punch. Montenegro can spring forward, with Jovetic finding Beqiraj. He slips, but keeps the ball. Drincic then fires a pass out of play.

Walker darts down the right and to the by-line. Volkov goes with him and slides in to concede yet another corner. Baines trots over to take.

England earn another free-kick inside their own half. Hart can take as long as he wants and run down the clock. The hosts are now very much in charge.

Lampard's final involvement as he makes way for Carrick. He will help to keep the midfield ticking over and calm things down.

Sturridge pressing again. Townsend then gets involved. He tries rto pick out Lampard, but Drincic stretches to intercept. Lampard is found moments later, but sends a half-volley over the top.

Jovetic almost offers an instant replay for Montenegro. There appears to be little on when he gathers the ball a long way out, but he crashes a stinging drive off the top of the crossbar.

GOAL ENGLAND - BESKOVIC OG. Luck now with the hosts as they double their lead. Sturridge flicks down the left for Welbeck. He cuts back towards the penalty spot, where Beskovic somehow diverts the ball past his own goalkeeper.

Sturridge freed into space by Rooney. The flag goes up. Very tight call, and one the Liverpool man disagrees with. Welbeck was flattened during the build-up, but should be okay to continue.

Baines takes the corner short to Townsend. He skips to the edge of the box and onto his left foot. A low shot arrows towards the bottom corner until Poleksic dives on the ball.

Jovanovic with a rushed clearance which concedes a cheap corner. England looking to put this game to bed.

Rooney overlapping down the right and he hangs a high cross to the back post. Zverotic takes no chances and nods behind. Gerrard gathers the corner short, but then fires a delivery far too long and Townsend can't keep the ball in play.

Townsend urged to shoot as he gathers on the edge of the box, but he doesn't. He goes back to Gerrard, who hooks over a tame cross which is easily dealt with. Changes on the way, with Beqiraj replacing Pavicevic.

Damjanovic with a glancing header which Hart has to dive to his left and palm away from goal. Jovetic them slips Damjanovic in again, but the flag goes up. Welbeck then wins a free-kick inside the Montenegro half.

Cards keep on coming. Walker next into the book for dragging Jovetic to the ground. He will now miss the game with Poland on Tuesday. Needless booking.

Sturridge goes down in the box, under pressure from Kecojevic. He had two red shirts around him, but the ball had already run away and he gets nothing.

Another card out, this time for Volkov. Montenegro not happy with the decision. He was cautioned for dissent after Boskovic tripped Lampard.

Volkov with a long throw, which Cahill deals with. Volkov then gets his feet tangled up and takes a tumble. An England throw allows them to move back up to halfway, and then on to Poleksic.

Baines racing back to get into position. Montenegro go the other way. No room for Damjanovic to hook over a cross, so he settles for a throw off Walker. England pegged down by their own corner flag.

Pavicevic hacks Welbeck down from behind and he goes into the book. England take a moment to slow things down, with Lampard over the set-piece. Hodgson looking a lot happier.

England in front and now have something to hang on to. Rooney the man again for the Three Lions, as he has been so often in this campaign. Montenegro have to come out of their shell a bit more now.

GOAL ENGLAND - ROONEY. Townsend races down the right and drills over a low cross. The ball breaks to Welbeck, who sees a shot beaten out to Rooney. He bundles the ball under Poleksic and into the back of the net.

Hodgson out on the sidelines rubbing his hands together. He doesn't look too comfortable. England defending again, with Montenegro growing in confidence. Jovetic pushed wide, before Volkov's cross is cut out.

Damjanovic's shot is blocked by Jagielka on the edge of the box. Zverotic then sees a cross from the right cut out. England unable to counter at pace and Jovanovic concedes a throw on halfway. England need to inject some pace into their game. As I say that, Cahill sprays a pass intended for Baines out of play.

No changes by either side at the interval. Expect them to arrive sooner rather than later if things don't improve. England need to stay patient and not look to force the issue. They are on the back foot here, though, until Jovetic has to backtrack.

England get the second half under way.

Players are back out and we are ready for the off once more.

Michael says: "If England qualify they'll be flattering to deceive. There is something missing from this team."

Ian Kennedy says: "Very very poor. If we scrape through tonight against lowly montenegro what hope do we have of beating the likes of Germany, Brazil in the World Cup? Gerrard is far too deep Lampard has been quiet rooney annonymous, this is not good at all."

Remember you can also bet in-play throughout the game at Skybet.com. England now 4/9 to take the spoils, with Montenegro 12/1 and the draw 9/4. You can get 4/1 on England winning 2-0.

How do you see the second half going? Get your thoughts in to Chris.Burton@bskyb.com or @SkySportsChrisB.

England 0 Montenegro 0. No goals at the interval. Not the best from both sides. Three Lions on top, but not too many chances.

Lampard delivers to the near post. Cahill flying in, but can't get anything on the ball.

Walker throws down the right, but nothing doing. Rooney then flicks into Lampard and gets it back. His low cross to the front post is flicked wide by Sturridge. He gets a corner, which is delayed by pushing and shoving.

Sturridge lays off to Welbeck, who sees a hopeful effort from the edge of the box deflects inches past the post. Gerrard's corner picks out Sturridge, who rushes a shot from 12 yards out and skews well wide. He had more time than he realised.

Walker pushing on again, and finding Townsend. He has to go back to Cahill. No way through for England and Jovetic runs the ball out. He is crowded out 35 yards from goal. Rooney then finds Sturridge, but he has no room for a shot.

Lampard on set-piece duty again. He floats the ball in, where Jovanovic nods clear. Cahill has to knock the ball out from in front of Jovetic. The visitors push into the England half, but the hosts pull 10 men back.

Rooney had options in the middle if he had looked up and squared. He was always going to struggle to force the ball home, but will also feel that he should have done better. England can take confidence from the fact they carved Montenegro open. They do so again as Walker wins another corner down the right.

Lampard through midfield and Rooney turns on to Townsend. He cuts onto his left foot. A tame shot is spilled by Poleksic, but Rooney slams the rebound from a tight angle into the side-netting off the outside of the post.

Volkov well forward and finds Jovetic. England force play back into the Montenegro half, before Jagielka is gifted possession. Walker then gives the ball away, but again the visitors display a lack of ambition.

Montenegro waste another attacking opportunity, which just invites England back at them. Walker down the line for Townsend to chase, and he does really well to keep the ball in. He finds Rooney, who tees up Gerrard. He shot is mis-hit and saved with ease.

Volkov down for Montenegro, but is soon back on his feet. Hodgson looking a little nervous now on the bench. England need a goal to make everyone feel a little more comfortable. No real sign of one as yet.

Rooney can't collect a driven pass from Baines. Gerrard then refuses to give up on a lost cause and forces Zverotic into conceding a corner. He takes himself, but the ball is glanced clear in the middle by a red shirt for another corner. Lampard delivers and Cahill glances off target.

Townsend skips inside off his flank again, but fails to slip a pass down the channels for Sturridge. Montenegro happy to keep showing Townsend inside. He is yet to find a final ball, but has looked lively.

Baines over another set-piece. Not the best as Poleksic can take one step backwards and pluck the ball out of the air. His long clearance ends up in the hands of Hart. Not what Montenegro needed.

Baines bombing down the left, but is forced backwards. England look right instead, but Walker opts against a cross from deep. Welbeck and Baines combine again, before Gerrard forces Poleksic to push a 25-yard effort around the post. Better from England.

Boskovic whips the ball in, but an offside flag goes up. Wasted by the visitors. England held a strong line. Gerrard then over-hits a pass towards Gerrard. Game has got a bit scrappy.

Montenegro play the ball along their back four. They look a bit more relaxed now. Cahill trips Jovetic 40 yards from goal. Opportunity for the visitors to send men forward and test England aerially.

Best chance England have created. Ball hit Welbeck on the shoulder, not his head. Jovetic pulled up again, offering the ball back to the Three Lions. Baines finds Sturridge, but Pavicevic shows good strength to win a throw.

Boskovic can't find Damjanovic and another Montenegro move breaks down. Volkov then gets away with a slip inside his own box as he hooks away from Rooney from on the floor. The resulting corner ends up at Welbeck, who nods wide of the target from 10 yards out.

Jovetic with a direct burst at the heart of the England back four. He shoots from a long way out and sees a deflection off Cahill loop the ball up in the air. Hart able to gather with ease. Townsend full of running again and wins a throw down the right.

Montenegro trying to knock the ball around, but England are working hard to keep them at arm's length. Patient approach from the hosts so far. They need to keep the faith.

Townsend skips past his man and finds Walker. He centres for Sturridge 25 yards out. He gets the ball onto his left foot, but bends an effort high and wide. Ukraine have taken the lead against Poland.

Gerrard puts far too much on the set-piece and fires into the hands of Poleksic. Jovetic drops very deep to get on the ball and try to create something. England pressing from the front. Walker wins the ball back off Volkov.

Hart out of his box again as Damjanovic races forward onto the end of one long punt forward. The ball is returned towards the England goal, with Hart still racing back, but never threatens to hit the target. England move forward and win a free-kick in midfield.

Baines driving forward and sending over another deflected delivery. He gets the ball back and finds Welbeck. He moves the ball onto his right foot, but sees Poleksic palm an effort from a tight angle behind and deal with the resulting corner.

Zverotic takes a tumble inside the England half and takes Lampard with him. Decision goes England's way. Again, they look to play their way forward. Nice to see as there haven't been too many aimless long balls so far.

Rooney wriggles free 25 yards out, but floats a pass onto the head of Jovanovic. Zverotic then pokes the ball forward for Drincic to chase, but Hart is alert to the danger and races out to hammer clear.

Jovetic finds Volkov on the left, but Lampard gets back at him. Ball won't stick up top for England on this occasion. Montenegro forced to go backwards though when they get on the ball. They seem to lack ideas.

Sturridge in behind, but his low cross is cut out by Savic. England remain on the front foot, with Townsend cutting back to Lampard. He squares for Gerrard to send a 25-yard effort over the top.

Baines into Rooney, who tries to free Welbeck down the left. Pavicevic goes with him and concedes a throw near the corner flag. Baines and Gerrard end up finding Rooney, but his low centre isn't the best.

Ball put in the net by Damjanovic, but he has strayed offside. He was well picked out, but had drifted beyond Jagielka and Cahill before the ball was played. Warning to England that they can't switch off.

Savic with another important headed clearance from in front of Sturridge. Rooney goes wide to the left to bring Gerrard into play. He feeds a pass into Sturridge, who is outnumbered.

Another bright burst from Townsend ends up with him being barged over by Jovetic. Another promising position for England - 40 yards from goal and just right of centre. Baines takes, and Poleksic comes through the crowd to punch clear.

Gerrard, from a central position, whips the ball in, but Kecojevic is there. Montenegro can break, but lack numbers. Jovetic tries to do it all himself and lets fly from 35 yards out. He never troubles Man City team-mate Hart as the ball sails well wide.

Townsend provides width on the right. He looks to work a yard, but Volkov slides in to poke the ball out of play. Gerrard is able to get a cross over, but picks out the head of Savic. Jovetic then pulled up for a nudge in the back of Jagielka. Opportunity to load the box.

Sturridge dropping deep and wide to get involved. Ball moved around him, with Rooney dictating. Townsend takes on a shot from 25 yards out, but sees it blocked at source. Montenegro happy to hack long to halfway.

Townsend drifts inside and finds Rooney. He tries to pick out Welbeck, but the ball rolls into the path of Sturridge. He has to shoot with his right foot - not his favoured one - and slices well wide of the target from just inside the box.

Boskovic seen off by Gerrard again. Lampard then sees a pass deflected into the path of Townsend. His touch is heavy and Savic can slide in to clear his lines. England start again at the back.

Montenegro with 11 men inside their own half. No room for Welbeck to get down the left flank, as Pavicevic blocks his path. England end up back at the feet of Hart, who finds Lampard. Three Lions trying to play their way forward.

Rooney picked out in space 25 yards from goal. He can turn and shoot, but his effort flicks off Volkov and wide of the target. Another corner to England. Baines delivers again, but the ball is nodded clear.

Walker cuts back to Townsend on the edge of the box. England move the ball well to Gerrard. His delivery barely gets off the floor. Montenegro struggle to clear their lines and Zverotic hacks into the stands. Baines then darts towards the box, but over-runs the ball.

Townsend driving forward again. This time he is bundled over by Zverotic. Nothing given. Montenegro unable to piece together an attack. Head tennis until Boskovic collects. He skips past Gerrard once, but not twice. England counter at pace.

Damjanovic collects in midfield, but has nothing in front of him and England pick his pocket. Baines slides the ball forward, and it breaks towards Rooney. Flag up as he went a fraction too early.

Townsend moves down the right and tucks a pass into the feet of Sturridge on the angle of the box. His low delivery is bundled behind for a corner. Baines whips the ball over and Poleksic gets just about enough on it to smuggle it to safety.

Welbeck with the first effort on goal. He collects a pass from Lampard 30 yards out and is able to drive towards the box. He opts to shoot left-footed from 20 yards out, but slices high, wide and not very handsome.

Cahill goes long, but Pavicevic has to rush a back-pass. Poleksic hacks clear with three white shirts closing him down. England seeing all of the possession so far. Visitors happy to sit deep inside their own half.

Early touch for Townsend. He will have wanted that. He does nothing with it - other than earn a throw - but will be pleased to be involved. Hart also gets his hands on the ball in the opening exchanges. England looking to knock it around inside their own half.

Montenegro get us up and running.

Formalities over and we are ready for the off. England will be looking to make a bright start and set the tone, push Montenegro back and keep them pegged in. That's the plan anyway...

Roy Hodgson looks relaxed as he shakes a few hands prior to the national anthems. Packed house at Wembley for a crucial contest. Should be a cracker. Here's hoping it delivers!

Right, the teams are out of the tunnel and the time for talking is over. We will have to leave the feedback there for now, but there will be further opportunities to have your say at half-time and at the final whistle.

Louis Watts has no fear. He says: "Whites, Whites, Whites, hopefully England can get the job done against a weakened but threatening Montenegro team. Would like to see Barkley playing and maybe a splash of Gary Hooper but still think England to win 3-0."

Simon Gibbs is hoping to get in the party mood. He says: "Big Night. England will be too strong for them. Probably still close at half time but England to stretch it out in the second half and win comfortably in the end 3-0. Big party for the game here in Waterville Maine USA - we've got the game live and we've all finished work early for this!"

Dennis Aberos has been checking on events elsewhere. He says: "I've been watching the first half of Ukraine vs Poland. Poland are playing like they have nothing to lose, which they of course don't have. A very even half and Ukraine haven't even tested Boruc. #Total confidence in Roy."

Philip Pope would like to see more Gunners in the England side. He says: "How is it possible that Arsenal are top of the league yet there are no Arsenal players in the starting XI yet Man Utd are 9th and have 2 players in the starting XI?"

Tom Charles thinks we will be spared any heartache tonight. He says: "Got to go for a 3-1 win. Hart weak in goal but Rooney in form. He's got to score first."

A little under 25 minutes until kick-off. Keep your thoughts coming in to Chris.Burton@bskyb.com or @SkySportsChrisB. Can England get the job done?

Ian Kennedy not too sure about England's starting XI. He says: "Townsend???? Why isn't Barkley playing??? He would breath life into the England team pace power and much more creative!!!! Does Hodgson want to get us to the world cup??"

Chris Sergio is hoping to be in the money tonight. He says: "Free £20 bet in my account so have slapped it on Rooney first and England 4-0. Returns over £800. Wish me luck!" Good luck.

Robin Stone thinks England will look to get on the front foot. He says: "Attacking formation, I am surprised but Wilshere instead of Lampard. Anyway, come on England."

Michael is another who would have liked to see Wilshere in the side. He says: "I think Hodgson is right not to play Jack on the wing - but I would have played him central with either Lamps or Gerrard."

Marcus Whynn is in confident mood prior to kick-off. He says: "Can't believe Carrick not in the side but still easy win for the boys tonight 4-0, but bring on Poland game."

Nick, tuning in from Winnipeg in Canada, is not convinced Hodgson has got things right. He says: "No Wilshere??? C'mon Roy."

With both sides in, what do you make of the starting line-ups and what they will have in store for us tonight? Get your thoughts in to Chris.Burton@bskyb.com or @SkySportsChrisB.

Tonight's referee is Alberto Undiano from Spain.

Montenegro, who sit third in the group, will be no pushovers though - having held England in their last three meetings, including a 0-0 draw at Wembley in Euro 2012 qualifying.

It is possible that England could all but wrap up a seat on the plane to Brazil tonight, but the collection of three points should be the only thing on the players' minds right now.

Failure to qualify for a first World Cup finals since 1994 is unthinkable for the Three Lions and Roy Hodgson will know that his fate as national coach could rest on results in the next five days.

A forgettable goalless draw in Ukraine last time out ensured that England kept their qualification fate in their own hands, with another home date to come against Poland on Tuesday.

England head into the game top of Group H, but still sweating on their involvement in Brazil next summer - with four nations still chasing a top-two finish.

Welcome to Wembley and our coverage of tonight's 2014 World Cup qualifier between England and Montenegro.

There are no fixtures at present.
