Mannone: Set for second Hull debut

Caretaker manager Nick Barmby is set to hand goalkeeper Vito Mannone his second Hull debut.

The 23-year-old has returned to the KC Stadium from Arsenal on loan until the end of the season after Peter Gulacsi returned to parent club Liverpool for scans on a knee injury.

Adriano Basso is struggling with tendinitis in his knee, meaning Mannone, who enjoyed a successful loan spell with Hull last season, will go straight into the starting XI.

Striker Jay Simpson returned to Hull this week after the end of his loan spell at Millwall and could be involved if Barmby looks to freshen things up following the 1-0 defeat to Derby on Monday.

Midfielder Seyi Olofinjana may feature after a long-term knee injury, while winger Richard Garcia is also pushing for a place in the starting line-up.

Ipswich are facing a midfield selection crisis.

Lee Bowyer was forced off just before half-time in Monday's 3-1 home defeat to Nottingham Forest due to a groin injury and, subsequently, has been ruled out for around two to three weeks.

Jimmy Bullard missed the game altogether due to illness and faces a race against time to be declared fit to face his former employers at the KC Stadium.

Loanee Keith Andrews (hamstring) is out having returned to parent club Blackburn, although Town remain keen to strike a permanent deal for his services with his stay at an end.

Fellow midfielder Andy Drury is also cup-tied following his involvement in the competition while on loan at Crawley and striker Jason Scotland remains doubtful due to the hamstring problem that has ruled him out of Town's last two games.

However, one piece of good news for manager Paul Jewell is the return of centre-back Ibrahima Sonko after a one-match suspension.
